How Much Is It Worth? originally appeared in Paragraph Planet, which publishes stories that are exactly 75 words long (including the title.) At the risk of this introduction being longer than the actual story, I’ll add that How Much Is It Worth? may be every writer’s desire.

“It’s not plagiarism; it’s not stealing,” the man selling the box said. “$10,000, a bargain. What do you say?” He lifted the wooden lid. Words swirled like they were caught in a tornado. He poked a finger inside and touched a word, which joined others to form a complete sentence. “This box collects the forgotten ideas famous writers had, but lost because they don’t write them down in time.”

An American writer in Japan, editor of The Binge-Watching Cure books, author of the bestselling book, Outwitting Squirrels. Occasional pilot, 24/7 cat owner.
